Data protection for Kubernetes is a hot topic for almost every company that has deployed container-based systems. These apps turned out to be more stateful than the hype surrounding “containers are stateless.” Many users attempted to convert their systems to stateless architectural models, but enterprise applications’ technical and organizational complexity threw a wrench in the works.
Due to Kubernetes’ inability to handle data protection for stateful applications natively, many vendors have stepped in to provide a variety of solutions to address the data protection, and thus data management, problem, ranging from basic backup and restore to more sophisticated multi-region disaster recovery and even full-fledged data copy management solutions for test/dev environments, as well as data storage solutions.
