As enterprises increasingly adopt containers and Kubernetes to modernize application development, they are looking for ways to improve the productivity of their developers and operational teams. Kasten is a leader in providing a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution for safely managing data in Kubernetes workloads, with a unique focus on Kubernetes data management and protection. The Kasten Kubernetes Workload Recovery (KWR) architecture is designed to provide enterprises with a simple, efficient and cost-effective way to recover data from failed or corrupt containers and Kubernetes resources.
KWR is built on top of the Kasten Data Management Platform (KDMP), which provides a complete set of tools for backing up, restoring and managing data in Kubernetes workloads. KDMP is designed to work with any type of container or Kubernetes resource, including stateful sets, deployments, and pods. KWR leverages the KDMP platform to provide a robust and reliable data recovery solution for Kubernetes workloads.
The KWR architecture is based on a three-tiered approach:
1. The first tier is the KWR agent, which is installed on every node in the Kubernetes cluster. The KWR agent is responsible for collecting data from the containers and Kubernetes resources on the node, and sending the data to the KWR server.
2. The second tier is the KWR server, which is a centralized data repository for the KWR system. The KWR server stores the data collected by the KWR agents, and provides a web-based user interface for managing the data.
3. The third tier is the KWR client, which is a command-line tool used to interface with the KWR server. The KWR client provides a set of commands for backing up, restoring, and managing data in the KWR system.
The KWR system is designed to be highly available, with multiple KWR servers running in different Availability Zones. The KWR servers are synchronized using a multi-master replication system, so that data is always available in at least two different Availability Zones.
The KWR architecture is designed to be highly scalable, so that it can handle large numbers of containers and Kubernetes resources. The KWR system can be scaled horizontally by adding more KWR servers, and vertically by adding more KWR agents to each server.
The KWR system is designed to be easy to use, with a simple web-based user interface that allows users to easily backup, restore, and manage data in their Kubernetes workloads. The KWR system is also designed to be easily integrated into existing DevOps processes and tools.
The KWR system is available in two editions:
1. The Standard Edition is designed for small to medium-sized deployments, and includes all of the features of the KWR system. The Standard Edition is available for a monthly subscription fee.
2. The Enterprise Edition is designed for large-scale deployments, and includes all of the features of the KWR system, plus additional enterprise-grade features such as multi-cluster support and advanced data management capabilities. The Enterprise Edition is available for a yearly subscription fee.
