Zerto journal-based scalability

Zerto is a software company that specializes in data protection and disaster recovery in virtualized environments. The company’s flagship product, Zerto Virtual Replication, is a journal-based replication solution for Hyper-V and VMware that offers near- synchronous replication with RPOs of seconds and RTOs of minutes. Zerto was founded in 2009 by Ziv Kedem (CEO) and Oded Kedem (CTO), who previously worked together at Apreo, a startup that developed a journal-based replication solution for Microsoft Cluster Server.

Zerto’s journal-based replication is unique in the market because it does not require any special hardware or SAN storage. It uses a proprietary log-based replication algorithm that is optimized for virtualized environments. Zerto Virtual Replication is available in two editions: Standard and Enterprise. The Standard edition is designed for small to medium-sized businesses and supports up to 4 VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V hosts. The Enterprise edition is designed for large businesses and supports an unlimited number of hosts.

Zerto offers a free trial of its software that allows users to replicate up to 2 VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V hosts. Pricing for the Standard edition starts at $3,500 per year for up to 4 hosts. Pricing for the Enterprise edition starts at $10,000 per year for an unlimited number of hosts.
