Zerto is a software company that specializes in data protection and disaster recovery. The company was founded in 2009 by Ziv Kedem, Oded Kedem, and Eran Farjun. Zerto is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with offices in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, and Israel.
Zerto’s flagship product is Zerto Virtual Replication (ZVR), a software-based disaster recovery solution that uses journal-based replication to protect virtualized workloads in private and public clouds. ZVR was designed to address the limitations of traditional storage-based replication solutions, which are often complex to implement and manage, and can be expensive to scale.
ZVR uses a journal-based replication approach that is optimized for virtualized environments. With ZVR, changes to protected virtual machines (VMs) are first written to a local journal, and then asynchronously replicated to a remote site. In the event of a disaster, VMs can be quickly recovered from the journal and started on new hardware at the remote site.
ZVR is available in two editions: Standard and Enterprise. ZVR Standard is designed for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and remote office/branch office (ROBO) environments. ZVR Enterprise is designed for large enterprises with complex IT infrastructures.
ZVR Standard Edition includes the following features:
-support for up to 500 VMs
-asynchronous replication
-journal-based replication
-automatic failover and failback
-recovery point objective (RPO) of 5 minutes
-recovery time objective (RTO) of 1 hour
ZVR Enterprise Edition includes all of the features of Standard Edition, plus the following:
-support for up to 5,000 VMs
-synchronous replication
-multi-site replication
-customizable recovery plans
-RPO of 1 minute
-RTO of 15 minutes
ZVR is licensed on a per-VM basis. Pricing for Standard Edition starts at $50 per VM, and pricing for Enterprise Edition starts at $100 per VM.
